Cabins, rentals and wooded lots
Many Townsend and Walland properties are cabins and vacation rentals, and they get worked hard. Hot tubs need a dedicated circuit with GFCI protection and a disconnect within sight. Porches want outdoor-rated fans and lighting. Guests plug in everything they own, so outlets and circuits have to hold up.
Wooded lots bring falling limbs, lightning and humidity. Surge protection, sealed outdoor devices and a sensible plan for outages pay off here more than most places.
Before you call
If a limb has brought a line down, stay far away and call the utility named on your bill. Downed lines can be live even when they look dead. Once the utility has made the service safe, any damage at the meter base, mast or inside the house is electrician work.
Do you work in Townsend and Walland?
Yes. Townsend and Walland, up the Little River from Maryville, are part of our service area, including cabins and rentals.
What does a hot tub need electrically?
Most hot tubs need a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to the manufacturer’s spec, GFCI protection, and a disconnect within sight of the tub but a set distance away from it. The spec sheet gives the amperage. Installation should be done by a licensed electrician.
A tree took down the line to my cabin. What now?
Stay clear of the line and anything it touches, keep others away, and call your utility right away. Don’t try to move it. After the utility makes it safe, an electrician can repair damage to the meter base, mast or wiring on your side.
